Isaiah's Jesus

During the season of Advent, Christians rightly focus our attention around the coming of God's Son as a human baby, commonly referred to as the Incarnation. But many of the carols we sing during this season still reflect the questioning and wonder we have as to who this baby - born in a stable in Bethlehem - truly is.

In the promise of His coming, the Old Testament prophet Isaiah paints a beautiful and surprising picture of who this baby would be. In Isaiah 9:6 we read:

"For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.  And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

Over the five weeks leading up to Christmas, we will examine each of those descriptions in detail; growing in our understanding of both who this baby was, and who Jesus continues to be today.
